What's The Big Deal About Eyeshadow Primer and Eyeshadow Bases?

Today we’re going to be talking about some difference between eyeshadow primer and eyeshadow base.  It’s a subject that get a lot of professional makeup artist confuse especially when starting to building their working kit. The number one thing you can do is to have both in your kit and for personal use.

From my little research as a certified makeup Artist, eyeshadow primers are mostly invisible on the skin due to their neutral color. They’re mostly light weight cream or emulsion which is applied to      the eyelids as first layer before eye makeup begins.  They’re used for the following reasons.

• Acts as a barrier between your skin and products
• In the cause of matte primers, they seal the oils from the eyelids
• Helps to ensure longevity of your eye makeup.
• Prevents creasing and fading.
• They also create a smooth base for an even application
• In the case of discolored lids, they even them out.

Eyeshadow Bases

These bases are often creams in pencil & pot forms whose main role is to intensify the color of your shadow.  They also help to create a smooth even base. When combined properly with eyeshadow primer they work amazingly great. It’s always advice to use them after donning on your eyeshadow primer.

Some great information to know.

• For your bright colored eyeshadow to pop more, use light colored eye base like white.
• Avoid applying more than a single layer whenever possible.
• For natural looks, use eye base alone on the lid and a light skin tone eye shadow.
• Skin tones bases or natural ones are more universal to use.
