9 Simple Ways to Incorporate Safety In Makeup Application

  As we celebrate World Safety Day, i thought of 9 amazing simple ways to incorporate safety in makeup application. 

Since our work as mua entails working with people , tools and products , it's very necessary we take into consideration how best we can work without causing any harm to most importantly our clients, ourselves and also our tools and products . Safety is not negotiable. I guess you wouldn't want to be known as that mua who always work with dirty brushes and the likes.

Spatula / Palette / Lipstick Wand / Mascara Wand / Makeup Sponges

 

 

Alcohol /MAC Brush Cleaner / Cleansing Hand Gel

1. Use of Mascara wands - Never use the wand that comes with the tube to apply mascara unless you intend to give it to the client. Disposable mascara wands are the best for application on multiple client. 
2. Use of Lip gloss wands - Same as mascara wand, use should always use the disposable wand or lip brush for this application.
3. Tools ( tweezers , eyelash curler , scissor) - Dab cotton wool in 99% alcohol and wipe these tools with it.
4. Use of spatula & palette - To avoid contamination of cream product like foundations, concealers, blushes,lipsticks and the likes always use a spatula to scoop out product onto a palette and work from there. This avoids double dipping and prevents product contamination.
5. Cleaning Brushes - When working on multiple clients, clean brushes in between them with your brush cleanser . It's also very necessary to clean all dirty brushes after any gig to avoid bacteria growth in them . 
6. Use of hand sanitizer - Before you touch any face, it's a must to clean your hands either with soap and water or a hand sanitizer to kill any germs.
7.  Keeping products -  It's very important to keep makeup container tight and away from   excessive light.
8.  Makeup Sponges - this is  best for applying foundation on multiple clients without having to clean in between them. They can always be thoroughly washed and reused again.
9. Makeup Sanitizer - Beauty So Clean is one product you can use to sanitize any makeup product without altering it. However in the absence of that , you can also do the following:

• Lipsticks : dip lipstick & cap into a small cup of alcohol and allow it to dry , rub off   alcohol with a tissue and you have a sanitized lipstick.
• Pencils : same as lipstick but this time  you sharpen it with a sanitized sharpener. 

• For powder products like pressed powders, eyeshadows and blushes , wipe then clean with a tissue and you're good to go.

 This is certainly not the ultimate, it's just how I've been working. Sanitizing your makeup product doesn't only avoid contamination but also increase the shelf life of the products. It also helps clients to see you more of a professional than just an ordinary artist. Let's work in a safer way because Safety is For Me, For You and For All.

I'm so geared to crease brushes so much so that i always want to purchase them. I have 6 amazing  crease brushes from different brands.The NYX crease brush B12 is among my top 3. It's among NYX professional line of brushes and so far i love using it. It blends color pretty well.

If you're on a budget, I'll highly recommend this NYX crease brush. It's worth trying and keeping. Great for those just starting out makeup. It's of good quality yet very affordable. Apart from blending eyeshadow, it's also great for pronounced contouring, the shape of the bristles enable it to fit right into the hollows of the cheeks. I love brushes that can multi- task. I was so interested in it because they said it was an all  matte eyeshadow palette but after some swatches i find out that some colours were more of a satin finish than matte.   Matte eyeshadows are staples in every mua kit.

ELF never ceases to amaze me . They have very awesome yet affordable products. Today's BOB is on their lipstick called Seductive . It's a coral matte yet creamier lipstick . The colour is so pretty and can be worn by all skin tones.  It's sheer ;however it can be built to a more full coverage on the lips.

My Makeup Designory Brush Collection So Far ....

 I got a request from a friend to do a review on my makeup brushes i have gathered so far and so i decided to start with my MUD brushes since i purchased them locally. Brushes are long time investment for any mua and so we always want to get the best. I have brushes but i always get excited when i see new ones . You can never have enough of brushes.

MUD makes great brushes for professional. They apply makeup flawlessly. They're super easy to clean. I love everything i have from MUD so far. All these brushes are made of natural and synthetic fibers. Here in Accra , I get to buy at very great prices from AllureSDC. I don't have all their brushes but i have the most needed.

Pretty Bright Traditional Wedding Makeover

Happy Monday People. I want to share with you some makeover i did on a  bride during her traditional wedding . My bride is very conservative , parents are strong Pentecostal - i trust you know what that means . With a Nigerian background , we went in for a bold look for her , just a little day time smokey look. Check it out ...

We went for baby blue eye  with chocolate lip combo. The bride wanted to look just herself but beautiful. She objected to wearing false eyelashes  for which i wasn't happy at all.

I needed extra coverage on her face so as to cover all her acne scars and so i used Graftobian HD Creme foundation and powders and with my BH Camouflage Concealer palette for corrector and concealer..  I love my MAC Razin and Ambering Rose blushes for women of colour, and that's what i used.

I achieve the eye look with my 88 Tropical Matte Palette from BH Cosmetics using L'Oreal Decrease as my eye primer and NYX Milk as a base. Using my MAC All that Glitters and Rice Paper as highlights for tear dot and eyebrows respectively.
Her lips , i filled the entire lips with  MAC Chestnut lip liner and added NYX Tea Rose Lip gloss.

 Apart from those amazing Hi-Def foundations from Graftobian I purchased for my pro kit, i was also introduced to their pressed powder foundations. Powder being it pressed or loose is a makeup must-have; it sets foundation; polishes looks and adds softness to the skin.

I'm back again with another important product i cannot work without and that is BH Cosmetic 10 Color Camouflage and Concealer Palette. BH Cosmetics sells very inexpensive but are some great palettes. I personally love this palette  and i started using it after seeing so many videos on YouTube from Ms Creative Diva and Tiarra Monet . These two divas turned this elephant in my kit to must-have to use for any makeup application.

Ok Beauties , enough with reviews , let's get busy with our books, Knowledge they say is Power .
 It would be interesting to do a new blog series called 'Book Reveal ' where i'll be sharing with you all some great makeup books i have.

This week's Book Reveal is about a book with a very curious name - Plastic Surgery Without The Surgery which is written by a woman i love so much and adore. She's a Celebrity Makeup Artist, the President and founder of Eve Pearl Cosmetics/Great Faces  and she's Eve Pearl . I love her approach to makeup and how she simplifies every makeup step in her book. With the skin being the largest part of our bodies , it deserves all the attention in caring for it. What Is The Challenge Involved ?

Yes !!!! Drinking of water , such an ordinary art. I do not want to bore you will all that water can do for you but i can share some basic truths about why it's so important to be ''water addicts''. Water makes 60% of the bodies weight. Listed below is just a few of some importance of drinking water and the effect on your body/skin. My Skincare Regimen 

As part of my clearer skin challenge i'm stepping up my skincare regimen for  both morning and evening. That means more cleansing , toning, masking and moisturizing. My problem areas are  hyper - pigmentation , few acne scars and spots. Will do a post of products i use for my skincare regimen.

I'm not going for slimming diet ...I LOVE MY BODY ... but rather i want to cut down on my carbohydrate and sugar intake and take more vegetables and fruits. My intake will include carrots,cucumbers ,tomatoes, grapefruits, mangoes,watermelon, banana, spinach and the likes.

Trust me this is no joke , I'm fully and fiercely dedicated and i hope you join me. I hope this becomes part of us when we finish with our challenge . The whole idea is to make the skin feel pampered and in return get a smooth skin.

Until recently i was just use to applying concealer to cover under-eye darkness and then i was introduced to correctors. Correctors are different from concealers, Celebrity MUA Bobbi Brown defines it any based used to neutralise under-eye darkness or hyper-pigmentation . They come in various colours .

MAC Sketch Eyeshadow - Review & Photo & Swatch

MAC Sketch eyeshadow is one of my favorite eye crease color. It has a velvet finish with very great pigmentation. It's very buildable during application. It's great for women of color.
